Maximizing your workout time at the gym. 1/17/’10.
Remember on my previous “tip of the week” I mentioned maximizing your time spent at the gym and not spending too much time there? Well there’s a couple ways that you can get the weight portion of your workout done in less time while challenging your body to work at a much higher level of intensity.
One way to reduce your workout time is to “circuit train”. Circuit training simply means you do several exercises back to back with no rest time in between these exercises, and you can train different body parts. By training this way it greatly increases the intensity of your workout plus it also keeps your heart rate elevated at a much higher level thereby burning more calories while cutting down on the amount of time you spend in the gym by about forty percent or so. For example, I generally train my clients circuit training-style with four exercises at a time and giving them about a fifteen second break before I have them repeat the same four exercises for a second set, that’s why I’m able to complete the training sessions in under forty five minutes while still being able to get continuous results.
Another way to “get in and get out” of the gym while still getting everything done in your workout is to “super set” your exercises. There are several different types of “supersets” but for the sake of confusion basically a super set is when you combine two exercises back to back without allowing your body any rest or recovery. In a way it’s similar to circuit training but with less exercises grouped together and it is a highly effective method for getting results.
Incorporating either of these techniques will definitely increase the efficiency of your workouts and combined with good eating and cardiovascular exercise can get you impressive results.
